The DSA’s annual conference in 2022 is taking place online, organised and hosted by University College London. This conference adopts justice and equity as central normative lenses to explore just futures in an urbanising and mobile world, facing a climate and ecological crisis in a pandemic or post-pandemic context.
DSA2022 will examine the following over-arching themes and questions:
Urbanising futures, climate change and sustainability
Urbanising futures, governance and social movements
Mobility, migration and diversity in an urbanising future
Future urban living
Urbanising futures and knowledge production
We invite contributions that help rethink development, particularly from colleagues who are starting their careers. This means questioning the models and theories shaping our field as well as responding creatively to social change. DSA 2022 does this in three areas of global development: environmental justice, inequality and methodologies.
A central theme of the conference is to explore how the work of those outside our field, including novelists and social historians, can help us unsettle our assumptions. For this reason DSA 2022 is a partnership with colleagues in the Sainsbury Centre of Visual Art and the School of Literature, Drama and Creative Writing. There will be a series of conversations with unsettling voices, including award-winning writers, activists and thinkers. Alongside paper presentations there will be a series of workshops, bookclubs, and panel discussions, using new methodologies to create imaginative spaces across different time zones.
