The Section on Balance in Legal Education is pleased to announce a Call for Presenters from which at least one additional presenter will be selected for the section’s program to be held during the AALS Annual 2017 Annual Meeting in San Francisco. The program is on “Transformative Learning: Helping Students Discover Motivation, Values and Voice.”

Program Summary: “It is no secret that law school can be a transformative experience. In this program, participants will discuss strategies to support the kind of transformation that will poise students to flourish in their post-law school lives. Drawing on psychology, education theory and the growing literature on professional identity development, participants will explore the factors that contribute to student motivation, as well as those that encourage students to discover their own values and begin to develop their own voices as professionals.

Featured speakers from outside as well as inside the legal academy will contribute their ideas and expertise to this lively and engaging program, which will include concrete teaching suggestions and techniques. The format will be interactive to allow for broad discussion and the exchange of experiences and ideas.”
